“Why not make a modern version of the old English club chair?” With this inspiration, Charles Eames began to develop the Lounge Chair during a creative process that lasted many years. The aim was to fulfil the desire for a generously proportioned armchair that combined absolute comfort with the best quality of materials and workmanship. The armchair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 set new standards: not only is it lighter, sleeker and more modern than the traditional bulky club chair, it is also more comfortable. Thanks to these qualities, the Lounge Chair has become one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most famous designs and has achieved classic status in the history of modern furniture.
