The Panton Chair’s story begins in the late 1950s, when Danish designer Verner Panton envisioned a plastic cantilever chair. Although the daring design initially failed to attract manufacturers, Willi Fehlbaum, founder of Vitra, became interested. Production only began after Rolf Fehlbaum and product development manager Manfred Diebold visited Panton and returned inspired by his innovative concept.
