The Do-Maru armchair takes its name from the ancient samurai armour, made of rigid plates of painted and decorated leather that embraced and protected the warriors’ bodies. As with the Almora swivel armchair, designed by Doshi Levien in 2014, the seat’s shell is made of a pair of overlapping shells, softened by two overlapping shells that can be covered in fabric or leather. The rear support, made of cast aluminium, emphasises the conical line of the armchair like a vigorous feature, while the front support is made of tubular metal with a black or pewter chrome finish to match the colours of the shell: white, black and dove grey.
